Always Consider Tomorrow Branding logo

At Aberdeen Mall we believe that a responsible team, determination and a belief in the need to improve not only our immediate environment, but our community is important to any sustainability program. Working together we always consider tomorrow.

Food Court Sorting Stations - Striving for Zero Waste

Our food court features a tray station that will sort all of your waste in order to streamline and eliminate landfill waste. It's been designed to manage products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials and not have it sent to the landfill. In 2024 we were able to divert 50,872lbs of food waste.

Recycling

Product which flows through Aberdeen Mall is carefully examined as to its recyclable potential. As with all shopping centres, the diversity of waste produced on site is akin to handling the waste of a micro city. eWaste, wood, plastic, glass, metal, cardboard, packaging (non-perishable and consumer), construction waste, light bulbs and batteries are most of the products that Aberdeen Mall sorts on an ongoing basis. Using local partners, all materials are handled properly, efficiently ensuring these items are diverted from our landfills.

Together with local community partners we have successfully held various parking lot recycling events whereby we collect clothing, household goods, construction materials and eWaste. These events are typically held in spring and we always welcome more community partners to join in our waste diversion efforts.

All recyclable bottles and cans are collected and donated to local non-profit groups.

Should you be interested to learn more about participating in our recycling events or being the beneficiary of the bottles & cans, please contact:

Gift Card Recycling Program

Each year, 75 million pounds of non bio-degradable PVC material from plastic gift cards are thrown away. This is equal to the weight of 180 blue whales! We have a gift card recycling box located at Guest Services that ANY and ALL used plastic gift cards may be dropped into. All plastic gift cards collected are sent to TerraCycle to be recycled into new and useful products.

Energy Efficiency & ECO Friendly

Aberdeen Mall strives to attain higher energy efficiency standards through use of a Building Automation System to control our HVAC and lighting systems. LED lighting is used throughout the mall common areas and low flow faucets and toilets have been installed in our washrooms. ECO friendly cleaning products are used throughout the centre.
